from Organising Chairman The organising committee works with eager anticipation and expectation as 14 Nov 2001 draws nearer. The Web has opened the Convention to new quarters, evidenced by the abstracts we have received from as far as the United States of America, and enquiries from Bangladesh and Africa! In this 5th ASPAN Convention, participants can expect papers of very high quality. Presenters include nursing colleagues who hail from Australia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, United Kingdom, USA and of course, Singapore. Speakers will attempt to untangle complexities in information technology in healthcare, patient-centred clinical practice, and new opportunities for nurses in policy making, education and nursing specialization. The workgroups of the 18-month Leadership For Change (LFC) programme jointly organized by The Singapore Nurses Association with the International Council for Nurses (1999-2000) will share highlights of their projects. These are potential and current leaders in the local nursing scene who hav brought, or aspire to bring about change. For the first time, we will have students from Nanyang Polytechnic present their work. We look forward to warmly welcome every nurse and friends, to the 5th ASPAN Convention. I urge each nurse in Singapore to invite our nursing friends here and from other countries. Let's extend our hospitality to our fellow nurses from across the miles!
